Ghana Bauxite Company Limited (GBC) has appointed Ecobank Ghana PLC to arrange up to USD 250 million in financing for its expansion programme, which aims to increase bauxite production and improve mining and logistics infrastructure. The parties signed the agreement in Accra on October 28, 2026. Ecobank will structure the proposed financing and coordinate participation from other banks and financial institutions. XINFA Aurum Exploration (Fiji) Limited is expected to ship out a total of 70,000 tonnes of bauxite to China at the end of next month. This was confirmed by company spokesman Basilio Vanuaca who said this was the second shipment of bauxite for this year. The Society of Geoscientists and Allied Technologists (SGAT) has expressed grave concern over the continuing stagnation in the mining sector in Odisha leading to a drastic fall in availability of mineral resources in the state. According to SGAT, nearly 490 out of the 600 leased mines are not in operation in the state. This includes 76 iron ore and manganese mines, which has resulted in a heavy fall in ore production. Odisha produced around 79.68 million tonne iron ore in 2009-10, which shot up to 81.14 million tonne in the following year. Union minister Kishore Chandra Deo has criticized the Andhra Pradesh governor for inaction on his request to stop bauxite mining in Vishakhapatnam, saying that special powers of Raj Bhavans were a waste if not used to safeguard the interests of tribals. Aluminum prices on the London Metal Exchange dropped about 20 percent in the second quarter due to high inventories, prompting Wall Street analysts to lower their original profit estimates on companies such as Alcoa Inc and Noranda. China's imports of bauxite tumbled to the lowest level in more than three years, and those of nickel ore fell 12 percent from an all-time high in May after Indonesia, the main supplier, tightened exports. Arrivals of bauxite, the ore used to produce aluminum, tumbled to 1.02 million metric tons, the lowest since April 2009, from 6.27 million tons in May, according to data from the General Administration of Customs on Monday. Indonesia supplied 187,355 tons, compared with 5.56 million tons in May, while Australia shipped 649,998 tons, the data showed. The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), says it is moving to take action against bauxite mining company Windalco, over this week’s fish kill in the Rio Cobre in St. Catherine. NEPA said it is preparing to issue an Enforcement Order on Windalco to compel it to cease the discharge of trade effluent into the river. It also wants Windalco to remedy the situation. The agency said 62,500 gallons of effluent from Windalco was released into the Pleasant Farm Gully on July 15, which resulted in the Rio Cobre being polluted and causing the fish kill. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says it will continue to work with the Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) as it takes steps to install a dust collection system for Kiln #13 that used to process bauxite at its operations plant in Linden.
