Mozambique plans to invest around USD 126 million in a solar power plant to supply electricity to mining companies in Gaza Province, southern Mozambique, according to state news agency AIM. Provincial governor Alfeu Cuna announced the plan at the Conference on Adding Value to Mineral Resources (CAVAME-d 2026) in Nacala. The project aims to strengthen electricity supply for mining operations and industries linked to mineral processing. Gaza Province has heavy mineral sands deposits at Chibuto and limestone at Mabalane. BAUXITE mining has been suspended until weather conditions improve. Aurum Exploration Fiji Ltd director Derek Qiu confirmed work had stopped in November after the last shipment left for China. The company sent 12 shipments last year. "Mining work has stopped but we are still keeping the workers to attend to maintenance," Mr Qiu said. Ma'aden Bauxite and Alumina Co., the subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Mining Co. (Ma'aden) has signed a financing agreement with Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF) for its aluminum project’s second phase. The company will repay the loan of SAR 900 million ($240 million) in 15 semi-annual unequal repayments. The loan repayment will start from July 9, 2017 and continue for 7.5 years.
