International Responsible Business Conduct (IRBC) has completed a project examining aluminium and bauxite supply chains to improve transparency and traceability in materials supporting the renewable energy transition. The project brought together wind energy company Siemens Gamesa, Dutch cable manufacturer TKF, Digital Product Passport (DPP) technology provider Minespider, and project partner Responsible Trade. Jamaica’s bauxite and alumina industry is on a growth trajectory. Driven by the reopening of Alpart bauxite mining and processing complex by Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company (JISCO) Limited in Nain, St. Elizabeth, the industry is growing bringing hope for the entire economy, Minister of Transport and Mining, Mike Henry, said in a recent press meet. Resources of bauxite in India are placed at around 3.89 billion tonnes of which the amount economically feasible for extraction is 0.656 billion tonnes. The Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) shared the data during a national level meeting held at Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) recently. The meeting was jointly organized by TIFAC, JNARDDC, and Department of Science and Technology (DST), New Delhi. ASX-listed Mercantile Investment Company has announced its intention to make a proportional off-market takeover bid for half of fellow-listed Bauxite Resources as part of a plan to put cash back in shareholders’ pocket after a decade of “failed” exploration efforts. Australian mineral exploration company Lindian Resources has identified and mapped three new bauxite deposits in the vicinity of its Lushoto bauxite project in Tanzania. The deposits spanning area sizes 2800m by 700m, 2300m by 600m and 2000m by 350m have been named as Lukozi deposit, Malibwi deposit and Mbwei deposit respectively.
