Kilfi dairy farmers in Kenya start using Aluminium containers, disown plastic
The county government of Kilfi has encouraged dairy farmers to start storing milk in aluminium containers and disown plastic storages. Aluminium met required sanitary standards for milk storage. The county authorities also wanted the dairy farmers to stop hawking milk in villages and as an alternative should make use of existing storage plants to get good value for their products. The county’s milk-producing capacity is more than 25 million litres annually. The Alcoa Corp’s Australian aluminium smelter was slug by power failure as on 31st January’20, following a transmission line toppled amidst high temperatures in the south-eastern part of the country. The Senior Environmental Officer of Environmental Agency (EPA), Collins Primo, says: “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is well pleased with the US$10,000 improvements which the Linden-based Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) has effected to its once problematic tailings pond.” Although he said recommendations will be done on procedures the amenities can be further improved. The Jamaican bauxite mining operation of New Day Aluminium, Noranda Bauxite, declares that bauxite exports from its St. Ann facility were accounted for approximately 3.8 million wet metric tonnes for the calendar year 2019. The bauxite exports covered sales to its sister Alumina refinery, Noranda Alumina, as well as their third party shipments to entities in Asia and the USA.
