China’s social inventories of aluminium ingot across eight major consumption areas, including SHFE warrants, decreased by 72,000 tonnes week-on-week to come below 1 million tonnes on Thursday, April 13, found the Shanghai Metals Market survey. Data shows the inventories totalled 966,000 tonnes this week versus 1.038 million tonnes on April 6 and 1.006 million tonnes on April 10 . A week earlier, primary aluminium inventories registered a weekly fall of 50,000 tonnes. Metalco plans to build an aluminium smelter at $2.7 billion; already corresponding with investment partners
According to a report on April 14, 2023, the Egyptian company for Metal Construction (Metalco) is contemplating building a smelter to meet local and overseas demand, its chief said in a statement on Friday. The project will cost about $2.7 billion for building a capacity of 600,000 tonnes, said Metalco’s CEO Mohammed Al-Saadawi. As per the report, the company is currently negotiating with a potential partner for the project. Rio Tinto begins construction of its Alma smelter expansion to boost high-value aluminium billets capacity
According to a report on Thursday, April 12, Rio Tinto has started the construction work for a capacity increase to casting low-carbon, high-value aluminium billets by 202,000 tonnes at Alma smelter, Quebec. Rio Tinto is expanding its existing casting centre to include new state-of-the-art equipment such as furnaces, a casting pit, coolers, handling, inspection, sawing and packaging systems. The newly expanded centre is scheduled to begin operation in the first half of 2025. The report states the project involves an investment of C$240 million. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium in China across eight major consumption areas dropped 32,000 tonnes at the beginning of the week on April 10, 2023. According to a recent report, Egypt Aluminium, popularly known as Egyptalum, has set a target for the fiscal year 2023-24, which includes a plan to achieve EGP 3.12 billion in net profit after tax. This marks an increase of 3.31 per cent from the previous year’s target of 3.02 billion.
