During the event, the General Manager said, “We are also happy to finally be here at the Aluminium 2022 Show, with the distinguished members of the press, after 4 years of postponements due to the pandemic. This year is a very special year for us, as it’s our mother company, Kibar Group’s 50th anniversary. As the flagship company of our group, Assan Alüminyum has been pioneering the flat-rolled aluminium industry in continuous casting production technology for many years. With our core values of reliability, flexibility, innovation and sustainability at the heart of our business, we have become one of the 2 largest aluminium foil producers in Europe.”

“As I’ve mentioned, sustainability is one of our core values at Assan Alüminyum and one of our top priorities. At the beginning of this year, we received the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard Certificate for our products and integrated recycling facilities. While this is a great achievement for us, it also marks an important milestone in our journey towards a sustainable future. We will use ASI as a valuable guideline for continuous improvement in this journey. We approach sustainability on all 3 dimensions: environmental, social and economic.”

He further added, "We have various environmental sustainability-oriented activities. Our highly competent R&D Team is working on a series of low-carbon products. Today, I am happy to announce one of these: our 3423 Recycling-Friendly Alloy, which we have designed as a premium, sustainable product using more than 95% non-primary aluminium as raw-material. Therefore 3423 has a 50% less carbon footprint than equivalent products."

According to Göksal Güngör, Renewable energy production is another critical topic in the transition to a circular economy. "At Assan Alüminyum’s renewable energy power plant, we produce clean energy equivalent to our annual electrical energy consumption. We can fully offset our scope two emissions through the International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) we generate and purchase."

Assan Alüminyum also developed many corporate social responsibility projects to contribute positively to environmental sustainability. Its Biodiversity Preservation Project is an excellent example of this. The company partnered with Kocaeli University’s Biology Department to save endemic plants from extinction. Through this project, they have preserved the Blue Star plant from death. This year, the Sand Daffodil plant project has just been accomplished, where the plant has been re-introduced into nature. Assan Alüminyum aims to continue our collaboration with Kocaeli University, to make further contributions to the preservation of biodiversity.

"Economic sustainability is the third dimension of sustainability, as I have mentioned. This brings us to new investments, which aim to improve our environmental sustainability significantly. With our motto of 'Producing the Future Without Wasting it', we plan to complete a series of sustainable investments worth almost 100 million US dollars. Our annual production capacity is planned to reach 360 thousand tons by next year. Our investment plans include new cold rolling lines, comprehensive modernization of existing lines, and regenerative filtration systems improving efficiency and reducing emissions. Assan Alüminyum is forecasted to have the largest continuous casting capacity in Europe and the Americas, with five new casting lines installed in the next two years", the GM said.
