2018 has been Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s first year of implementation as an independent third-party certification program for the global aluminium value chain. The organization continued adding new and significant members to its certification program from all over the world and from different segments of the aluminium value chain while reiterating their commitments towards sustainability in aluminium.

The organization increased outreach and engagement in China in 2018. 10 ASI Certifications have been issued in the first 12 months, covering all parts of the aluminium value chain. 18 educational modules from ASI are now available on YouTube and it has delivered training to more than 100 people.
Daniel Weston, ASI Board Chair, says "ASI’s purpose is to make a difference, and that doesn’t happen until our Standards are implemented in real life. So our first year as a certification organisation has been very exciting; not only have we seen a good number of companies already becoming certified against the Standards, but we also have an increasing number of new members joining ASI with an intention to apply for certification in the future."
The ASI has been working hard to design the program and roll it out this year. The certification process is getting streamlined and the foundation is laid up for efficiency and effectiveness for all participants.
Fiona Solomon, ASI CEO, says "We are striving to deliver an ambitious agenda and it's a pleasure to be part of such a hard-working and collaborative team in the ASI Secretariat. We thank all our members and stakeholders for their support this year and in particular, thank our Board, Committees, Working Groups and IPAF for their greatly appreciated contributions to ASI during 2018."
Some of the major names that have received ASI Certification in 2018 are Rio Tinto, Tetra Pak, Audi AG, AMAG Austria Metall AG, Hydro Hoogezand, Constantia Teich, SIG and Amcor.
