The rolling plant at Pindamonhangaba is one of the world’s largest integrated sites that recycles aluminium beverage cans and produces aluminium-rolled products. Its annual production volume is about 694,000 tonnes of aluminium sheet, primarily destined for beverage packaging.

Earlier in October 2021, the same plant received Performance Standard Certification from ASI, while the fourteen aluminium recycling collection centres and one distribution centre were added to that certification via a scope change audit in June 2022.

On receiving the certification, Francisco Pires, President of Novelis South America, said: "Novelis has been working globally to provide greener aluminum, which means that our efforts in all the countries where we operate are focused on innovation and sustainability. Being recognized by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative at all levels confirms that we are moving the right way for our business and our customers in a more sustainable vision of the future.”

Future of the Global Aluminium Castings Industry

Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We congratulate Novelis do Brasil LTDA. on achieving ASI CoC Certification for its Pindamonhangaba rolling operation and network of aluminium can collection centers in Brazil. The company’s system comprising the recycling and rolling facility and collection centers, combined with Brazil’s world leading aluminium can recycling rate of 98.7%, makes this a prime example of a circular economy in action. The company’s dual ASI Certification expands Novelis’ leading efforts in the responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium."

The independent, third-party audit of the recycling and rolling facility, 14 recycling collection centres and the distribution centre was carried out by DNV Business Assurance Services UK Ltd.
