apt Extrusions GmbH & Co. KG, Monheim, Germany opened its doors to visitors to experience their plant and facilities during the "Long Night of Industry". The participation is free and visitors thronged the Monheim site with goggles, hearing protection plugs and headsets to see the processes.
apt Extrusions is a leading manufacture of complex and multifunctional extruded aluminium profiles and products in Germany. Their processing capabilities cover the entire value chain for the manufacture of products – from raw material to the end product.
"Aluminum is pure passion for us," says Managing Director Thomas Boddenberg at the start of the company's visit.
The company was founded in 1972 and their products are used in automotive and mechanical and electrical engineering and in household, garden and sports. Since 2015, the Chinese Sedant Foundation Holding Co. Ltd has been the major shareholder of the apt Group. The group now has four companies spread over locations in Monheim, Bavarian Eckental, Dutch Roermond and in the Czech town of Cheb. About 350 employees are employed at the Monheim site.
Thomas Brockmann, the head of the Werktechnik accompanied the guests together with the head of the quality management, Hubertus Schomacher. The operations were not disturbed by the visitors and the activities continued without problem.
"In Monheim about eight percent of the aluminum profiles are manufactured in Germany," explains Brockmann. For this purpose, the string-heavy extruders are required, which press the previously heated metal into the mold. "The extrusion presses are the heart of our plant," Brockmann says.
The company remelts used scrap and produces secondary aluminium and processes the metal for their products. The guests were also shown the tools and the finished profiles along with the processes. Brockmann and Schomacher also showed the anodizing plant and the loading hall to the guests.
"To enable young people to gain an insight into industrial professions is our goal at the Long Night of Industry," says Elena Alvanos-Flad. The company also wanted to project itself as a potential employer t local youths through this programme. .
