Aluminum will Shine again for Alcoa and Bauxite Resources
Alcoa, a Dow Jones 30 member, is the largest aluminum company in the world. Bauxite Resources, based in Australia, is the largest tenement holder in the Darling Range, which is the largest alumina region in the world. From this sector of Western Australia, almost one-quarter of the world's production is generated.
The uses for aluminum are very diverse due to the treasured properties of the metal. As a result, it is the most flexible of the metallic elements. Aluminum is completely impermeable. It is also very lightweight, which makes it even more useful for high tech purposes.
This can be seen in the wide variety of end uses. Buildings with aluminum components are virtually maintenance free due to the resistance to corrosion For that reason, it is widely deployed in the aerospace industry, particularly for body parts for airplanes. There are many household uses, too, in pans and appliances.
Due to the attractiveness and versatility of aluminum, there is a huge global demand. This has naturally attracted potential buyers for aluminum companies. BHP Billiton (NYSE: BHP), also based in Australia, has been mentioned as a potential buyer of an aluminum entity. The world's largest mining company, BHP Billiton was reported by an article in Businessweek to be interested in becoming a "one stop shop" for commodities buyers. To accomplish this, BHP Billiton needs to fill out the aluminum void in its metals lineup.
It is not only BHP Billiton that might be interested in buying an aluminum company. Armed with a stronger Yuan, Chinese companies have been gobbling up foreign resource companies. A Yen higher in value has Japanese firms looking to purchase international holdings, too. No matter the buyer and whether it is of the commodity or the company itself, entities in the alumina sector such as Bauxite Resources and Alcoa have a shiny future.
