
The largest aluminium producer in the GCC region, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Inalum (Persero), the largest primary aluminium producer in Indonesia, concerning a strategic alliance to upgrade Inalum's aluminium by 400,000 tonnes per year. However, this needs to be realised that the memorandum of understanding is a make-sure action to Indonesian President Joko Widodo's visit to UAE in November 2021.

Husin Bagis, the Indonesian Ambassador to UAE down rightly appreciated the signing of the cooperation between the two aluminium production giants of the two nations.
The Ambassador in his official statement said, “The EGA-Inalum cooperation is highly expected because the President has declared the importance of mineral down streaming for Indonesia.”
“EGA, as one of the providers of aluminium smelter technology, is ready to invest in Indonesia considering energy prices and renewable energy sources. This investment cooperation is expected to be one of the deliverables of the G-20 presidency”, he added.
The signing agreements ceremony happened in the presence of Saeed Muhammad Al Tayer, the CEO of Dubai Electricity Water Authority and the vice-chairman of EGA, Musabbeh Al Kaabi, the CEO of Mubadala UAE Investment and also the Board of members of EGA
Present at the event was the CEO of Dubai Electricity Water Authority, Saeed Muhammad Al Tayer, who is also the vice-chairman of EGA, the CEO of Mubadala UAE Investment, Musabbeh Al Kaabi, who is also the Board of Member of EGA, and the secretary of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas Himawan Hariyoga, Indonesia.

Hendi Prio Santoso, the CEO of Inalum said, “Inalum invited EGA to enter the aluminium industry value chain from upstream, midstream to downstream. We want it to move faster so that the signed MoU can be implemented immediately.”
Abdulnasser bin Kalban, the CEO of EGA said, “EGA will soon open an office in Indonesia as soon as the signed MoU is implemented. Currently, EGA's production has reached 2.5 million tonnes per year, cooperation with Inalum will increase our growth inorganically.”
