
North America’s primary aluminium production stood at 317,000 tonnes in September 2020, marking a growth of 2.26 per cent year-on-year. On a month on month basis, the output declined by 4.23 per cent from August production of 331,000 tonnes.
In the first nine months of 2020, the production stood 4.13 per cent higher than the same period last year. The output totalled 2.976 million tonnes, from 2.858 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2019, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).

In 2019, the output stood at 3.809 million tonnes, an increase of 0.93 per cent from 3.774 million tonnes in 2018.
In South America, primary aluminium production declined by 11.7 per cent year-on-year and 1.19 per cent month-on-month to 83,000 tonnes in September 2020. In January-September 2020, the output of primary aluminium increased from 787,000 tonnes in January-September 2019 to 741,000 tonnes. This recorded a decrease of 5.84%.
Primary aluminium production declined from 1.164 million tonnes in January-December 2018 to 1.079 million tonnes in January-December 2019. This marked a drop of 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
