
North America’s primary aluminium production stood 4.72 per cent higher year-on-year to 333,000 tonnes in April 2020. On a month on month basis, the output declined by 2.62 per cent from March production of 342,000 tonnes.

In the first four months of 2020, the production stood 4.27 per cent higher than the same period last year. The output amounted to 1.319 million tonnes, from 1.265 million tonnes in the first four months of 2019, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI).
In 2019, the output stood at 3.809 million tonnes, an increase of 0.93 per cent from 3.774 million tonnes in 2018.
Primary aluminium production in South America decreased by 12.35 per cent year-on-year and 21.98 per cent month-on-month to 71,000 tonnes in April. The output of primary aluminium increased from 334,000 tonnes in January-April 2019 to 350,000 tonnes in January-April 2020.
Primary aluminium production declined from 1.164 million tonnes in January-December 2018 to 1.079 million tonnes in January-December 2019. That was down 7.3 per cent year-on-year.
