Keeping the tradition alive, the Wisconsin Historical Museum once again presented “Ever Gleaming: The Enduring Love Affair with the Aluminum Christmas Tree” exhibition starting on Black Friday, Nov. 24 and Jan. 13, 2018.
“These aluminum trees appealed to a space-age notion of modern living,” notes Mike Hollander, interim director of the Wisconsin Historical Museum. “No need to travel out to the tree lot or worry about needles falling onto the carpet; these shiny trees were an expression of the new age of modern living where life was clean, automated and easy.”
{alcircleadd}The guests in the exhibition could actually relive history and experience nostalgia with the aluminium Christmas trees, which were popular in the 1960s. The exhibit includes over two dozen different aluminium Christmas trees in various colours like silver, gold and pink. Visitors can relive holiday memories, pose for pictures in a vintage 1960s living room, and see a wide array of shiny aluminium trees.
The aluminium trees on display were made at The Aluminum Specialty Company in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The company became the largest manufacturer of aluminium trees employing 750 people at its peak business time to make Christmas trees with evolving designs. Evergleam, the aluminium tree brand became a remarkable success with more than one million of them being delivered into American homes over time.
The Wisconsin Historical Society, founded in 1846, is one of the biggest and most active state historical societies in the nation. It helps people connect to the past by collecting, preserving, and sharing stories from the history that were a part of everyday life of people.
