
In June 2022, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) stood at 1.141 million tonnes, bringing the total amount in the second quarter to 3.530 million tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute. The output in Q2 recorded a quarter-on-quarter increase of 6.58 per cent from 3.312 million tonnes and a year-on-year rise of 6.68 per cent from 3.309 million tonnes.

On a month-on-month basis, Africa & Asia’s (ex-China) alumina production in June 2022 registered a rise of 1.87 per cent from 1.120 million tonnes and a surge of 7.34 per cent from 1.063 million tonnes over a year.
In the first six months of 2022, alumina production in Africa & Asia (ex-China) totalled 6.842 million tonnes, up by 6.01 per cent from 6.454 million tonnes during the corresponding period of last year.
The world alumina production in June 2022 came in at 11.6 million tonnes, seeing a decrease of 3.8 per cent from 12.058 million tonnes in May and a fall of 1.24 per cent from 11.746 million tonnes in June 2021.
In Q2 2022, the world alumina production totalled 35.034 million tonnes, which grew by 5.79 per cent from 33.118 million tonnes in Q1 but slipped by 1.17 per cent from 35.450 million tonnes in Q2 2021.
