Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has announced today, on July 13, that it certified Aleris Aluminium Duffel with its Chain of Custody Standard Certification for aluminium refining/remelting, casting, and semi-fabrication activities. Aleris plant in Duffel, Belgium, manufactures aluminium sheet and coil for the applications in automotive, building and construction, commercial transportation, heat exchangers, industrial products, and packaging.
Earlier, in July 2019, Aleris Aluminium Duffel had achieved the ASI Performance Standard Certification.
The ASI Chain of Custody Standard Certification sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody for material produced and processed through the value chain into diverse downstream sectors. The ASI Certification program, developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process, is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain.
The independent third-party audit of the Aleris Aluminum Duffel plant was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said, “We warmly congratulate Aleris Aluminum Duffel on their ASI Chain of Custody Certification. Aleris has supported ASI’s vision from the outset, and we are pleased to see that the company now has both ASI Certifications and the possibility to offer its customers ASI-certified products, given the appropriate upstream sourcing. Aleris’ commitment to sustainability in the aluminium value chain is important, considering its reach into several key downstream sectors.”
Andreas Gondorf, VP Sales & Marketing of Aleris Aluminum Duffel, commented: “We are extremely proud of this achievement and my compliments go out to the entire team, who despite the Covid-19 restrictions and an ownership transition, stayed laser-focussed on keeping sustainability our top priority. As a founding member of ASI we share the view that ASI certification is the future standard for our industry and we are looking forward to shipping the first ASI-certified material to our customers in the coming days.”
