Alcoa Corporation, a leading global producer in bauxite, alumina, and aluminium products, has agreed to extend the existing labour contract with the United Steelworkers. Alcoa has agreed to reach a new multi-year labour agreement covering about 1,700 active employees at five U.S. locations.
The Company and the union have agreed to continue with the existing contract, which was set to expire on May 15, 2019. Negotiations between Alcoa and the workers will continue and a new deadline has not been set.

United Steelworkers employees will continue to work under the extended contract at the five Alcoa sites: Warrick Operations in Indiana; Massena Operations in New York; Gum Springs in Arkansas; Wenatchee Works in Washington and Point Comfort in Texas.
The major part of United Steelworkers employees work at Warrick Operations’ aluminium smelter and rolling mill and at the Massena Operations smelter. Alcoa has closed operations at the Point Comfort alumina refinery and the Wenatchee Works aluminum smelter.
It is to be noted that in August 2018, members of Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) from Alcoa’s Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup aluminium refineries, the Huntley and Willowdale bauxite mines, and Bunbury Port started strike on August 8, after Alcoa terminated the collective agreement. However, the strike was ended on mutual agreement after Alcoa’s commitment that it would not make employees forcibly redundant by outsourcing their work or replacing them with limited-term or casual employees.
