With only 10 per cent of globally traded alumina changing hands on the spot market, Hindalco is moving its tenders online in an effort to strengthen the evidence behind benchmark prices. For a commodity market where a relatively small number of transactions can influence prices across a much larger pool of long-term contracts, the quality of the underlying data matters. That is the challenge facing alumina, and Hindalco is now testing whether digital trading infrastructure can help address it. Hindalco is expected to conduct its first digital tender for metallurgical-grade alumina on Metalshub before the end of 2026. The physical cargo sold through the tender may be only part of the significance of the transaction. The more important outcome could be the structured market data generated...

Aluminium is a very resilient metal that can be recycled repeatedly without losing its original value. Recycling aluminium conserves 95 per cent of the energy required to produce the same quantity of aluminium from scratch. Recycling metals isn't always as simple as it may be. Steel is the hardest of the recyclable metals to recycle, while aluminium is the easiest. Although recycling aluminium is simple, it isn't the most recycled metal. In the second quarter of 2022 (1Q2022), the United States exported a total of 84,200 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Malaysia. On a Q-o-Q calculation, a surge of 76,260 tonnes or 960.45 per cent was recorded in the second quarter from 7,940 tonnes in 1Q2022. As per the USGS statistics, in March 2022, the United States exported 2,670 tonnes of aluminium scrap...

The aluminium-framed CR500 from Honda was considered one of the most popular two-stroke dirt-bike models during the mid-2000s. It also featured an air/liquid-cooled CR500 engine, dual disc brakes, and cartridge-type suspension. This aluminium-framed dirt bike also came with a single-cylinder, 2-stroke, liquid-cooled engine with a bore-stroke ratio of 89 x 79 mm. The air-fuel combination was handled by a 38-mm flat-slide Keihin carburettor with a 6.8:1 compression ratio (#55 slow and #170 main). An expansion chamber and an oiled polyurethane foam element were also used for air filtering. Aluminium bike frames are solid and stable despite their low weight, making them ideal for various riders. These bikes are perfect for mountain bikers, touring cyclists, or anyone who can't resist a ride...

A type of aluminium alloy is capturing mass recognition in the industrial sector, which is referred to as 7075 aluminium alloy. It is specially used in making highly ductile extruded components for the automotive, aerospace and marine industries. Aluminium alloys are mostly applicable in the hardware or automotive industries owing to their elevated strength-to-length ratio and cheap pricing. 7075 aluminium is one of the toughest aluminium alloys ever developed, and its strength can be compared with some existing low-grade steels, though it weighs lesser on the scale. 7075 aluminium alloy with more endurance shows additional mechanical properties and permits anode reaction. 7075 aluminium extrusions are usually engaged in making aircraft structures and other pressure-casted structural...

The silvery metal aluminium has unblocked new dimensions in the last decades, as endless objects that can be simplified and upgrade the quality of daily human life are relatively made from aluminium. Aluminium is essential in converting to a climate-friendly economy. Electric vehicles, renewable energies, building and construction, machines, electronics, and packaging materials can be from recycled aluminium. Rob van Gils, the newly elected new President of Aluminum Germany, said, "The high energy prices are tearing the rug out from under the feet of energy-intensive production in Germany." Primary aluminium production is highly energy-sensitive; around 17,000 kWh of electricity is required to produce 1 tonne of aluminium. This indicates that it has a relatively high cost. Germany's...

The Shanghai Metals Market survey found social inventories of primary aluminium built-up 55,000 tonnes across eight major Chinese consumption areas, including SHFE warrants, during the National Day holiday ended October 7, 2022. As of Saturday, October 8, inventories totalled 674,000 tonnes, up by 22,000 tonnes from October 26. The surge in inventories could be attributed to downstream consumption recovery, as better consumption led to the possibility of continuous inventory accumulation. The chart below indicates the current status of primary aluminium inventories across China in more details: On a week-on-week basis, primary aluminium inventories in Wuxi rose 17,000 tonnes to stand at 206,000 tonnes as of October 8, following a sharp downfall of 22,000 tonnes in Gongyi to 90,000 tonnes....
