The first phase of the Dandara Solar Power project comprises a 569 MW solar plant supported by a 100-MWh battery energy storage system. The Norwegian renewable energy company has also signed loan agreements to finance the development, which was first announced in 2025. Under a 25-year power purchase agreement, the facility will supply clean electricity to Egyptalum. Once operational, the first phase is expected to generate approximately 1.4 TWh of renewable power annually and avoid more than 550,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide...

Alcoa Intalco aluminum smelter sees a silver lining once again to restart its operation, as the climate and health care bill has been passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden with provisions that could help the resumption of the smelter’s operation. Already the reopening campaign for the smelter is in full swing since the rise of the aluminium spot price to a record high in March 2022. But what appears as a hurdle is the affordable source of electricity for energy-intensive aluminium production. So far, the smelter has been unable to reach an agreement with the Bonneville Power Administration, which sells electricity generated by federal Pacifica Northwest dams. As per the Seattle Times report, the climate and health care bill has dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act, which...

Despite several meetings with Industri Energi and Norsk Industri, the collective agreement between the two companies to secure a new labour deal failed, due to which some employees at Alcoa's Mosjøen aluminium smelter in Norway went on strike on Monday, August 22. However, Alcoa's Lista plant in Norway is not currently part of the ongoing strike. In a more considerable labour dispute that affects other areas of Norway's industrial sector, Alcoa said that 17 of the 550 employees at the Mosjøen smelter failed to report to work on Monday. If the strike continues on Wednesday, the number will rise to 35 members. A reduction agreement that applies to Alcoa's factory specifies what will happen if a strike gets out of control, including delivery halts, temporary output cutbacks at the smelter,...

Domestic alumina production recovery in Jamaica is expected to counterpoise the slowdown in economic growth for the financial year 2022-23, caused by the country’s one of the main alumina refineries suspension. The Bank of Jamaica is projecting GDP growth of 2.5-4.5 per cent for the fiscal year ending March 2023. The bank’s governor Richard Byles said in a statement, “The forecasted growth reflects the recent resumption of production at the Jamalco alumina plant” In August 2021, Jamalco had to shut down its operation after a major fire accident but the 1.42 million tonnes refinery has now resumed. Jamalco is a joint venture between General Alumina Jamaica, a member of the Noble Group, and Clarendon Alumina Production, controlled by the Jamaican government. The former owns 55 per cent of...

InTech, a company that pioneers making all-aluminium travel trailers, has added the latest series of endurable trailers to its portfolio, called the O-V-R series. These aluminium trailers have been designed to penetrate rugged terrains and ‘even the most remote locations’. This portable trailer makes its presence known with its significant design allocations, which can be differentiated into three genres, focusing on the length and equipment installed. All these three models have been constructed around a hard, fully welded cage and framework. Aluminium is a lightweight, malleable metal which can be recycled a million times, making it favourable for automobile makers. It is sometimes preferred over steel for its super-light structure that adds no extra weightage to the end-user product....

The forging industry in India's largest industrialized state, Tamil Nadu, is encountering a challenging phase as the cost of production materials like aluminium and steel and fuel has soared. Despite a revival in demand, the industry faces higher expenses and difficulty obtaining raw materials. Rajavelu Manickavasagam, the Managing Director of Innoforge Pvt. Ltd., said, “We are forced to buy through third-party traders, and even then, we don’t get materials on time. The California-based Electric Bike Company launched its much-awaited foldable e-bike, dubbed Model-F, featuring hydroformed aluminium chassis. The Model F sports a low-step through the frame and 24-inch wheels instead of the bigger cruiser's 26-inch wheels and the smaller 20-inch wheels often seen on other folding electric bikes. Hydroforming involves pressing room-temperature material into a die with high-pressure hydraulic fluid. A hollow aluminium tube is put within a negative mould that mimics the final shape to hydroform aluminium into the frame rail of a car. The 3′′ broad tyres are likewise a compromise between narrower street tyres and cushier fat tyres, more appropriately classified as balloon tyres. The bike is slightly more portable when folded thanks to the reduced diameter...

According to a report on Monday, August 22, strike at Hydro Sunndal aluminium plant has come into effect today, which will result in the implementation of production cut agreement. Also, as a result of the strike, around 30 members of Industri Energi will not report to work at the aluminium plant. The strike is expected to cause a supply disruption, as 20 per cent of the production will initially be reduced within the next four weeks. A pause in the shipment of products from Hydro Sunndal to customers during the strike will also be an added factor for the supply irregularities. If the strike continues for more than four weeks, then another 10 per cent of production will be cut each week until one section of production line remains. More Industri Energi members will go on strike gradually,...
