The company says a low-cost conductive carbon rubber current collector has raised initial capacity to at least 210 mAh g⁻¹, although further testing is needed to establish long-term performance. Green Science Alliance has more than doubled the initial capacity of its aqueous rechargeable aluminium-ion battery, reporting a rise from approximately 103 mAh g⁻¹ to at least 210 mAh g⁻¹ after introducing a low-cost conductive carbon rubber sheet as the cathode current collector. The development, led by Dr Ryohei Mori, could help address cost and manufacturing challenges associated with aluminium-based batteries. The company said the improved cell maintained its reported capacity for at least 25 cycles, with testing still under way. The result marks progress for aqueous rechargeable...
One and One Green Technologies, a Philippines-based recycler of waste materials and scrap metal, saw its aluminium alloy revenue decline in the first half of 2026 after an equipment upgrade temporarily halted aluminium processing for about six weeks. The company, which produces aluminium alloy, copper alloy and brass alloy ingots, suspended aluminium processing from mid-May through the end of June while upgrading its aluminium processing equipment. Production resumed in July 2026. The disruption affected the company’s aluminium business even as overall financial performance remained positive. Revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026, rose 18.7 per cent to USD 33.38 million from USD 28.13 million a year earlier, while net income increased 17.4 per cent to USD 4.49 million from...

A study by Waste Experts, one of the most responsive waste management specialists and commissioned by alternative nicotine delivery solutions (ANDS), confirmed the recyclability of single-use aluminium and plastic vapes. ANDS, a trademark owner and distributor of alternative nicotine delivery systems, stated that the recyclability of aluminium and plastic was assessed based on the materials used, the weight of recyclable components, quantity of trash diverted from landfill, disassembly time, number of components inside each vaporiser, and total product weight in each instance. The results, disclosed to legislators at a unique Houses of Parliament event, come as the sector faces increased scrutiny owing to the estimated five million or more goods thrown away each week. For similar...

The Indian market for imported aluminium scrap saw varying trends this week. According to SteelMint's assessment, scrap prices diverged by approximately US$40-45 per tonne w-o-w. Adequate offers aligned with strengthening futures and buying inquiries resulted in moderate transactions in specific regions. However, there was also a mixed buying pattern observed among particular end-users and traders who are cautious about near-term price levels and are observing future exchange price trends. Sourced from SteelMint and LME Buyers based in the northern region were wary of highly volatile metal futures contracts while making bids and kept the bids lower by around US$20-40 per tonne. In contrast, importers based in the western region showed a willingness to engage in prospective deals and...

Japanese buyers have reportedly agreed to the premium of $127.50 per tonne for aluminium shipments for the third quarter of 2023, close to $125-130 per tonne range in the previous quarter ended June 30. The premium remains restrained for the September quarter due to ample stocks and sluggish domestic demand. The premium for Q3 is decided after extensive negotiations whereby producers demanded higher premiums than the previous quarter but buyers sought to cut levels, said the sources directly involved in pricing talks. The negotiations began in late May between Japanese buyers and global suppliers, including Rio Tinto and South32. One of the sources even said that some buyers wanted to fix the premium at $110-110 per tonne but ran out of time in negotiations. Japanese aluminium producers...

University of New South Wales (UNSW) researchers in Australia have developed a new technique for recycling end-of-life photovoltaic (PV) panels, which can separate 99% of PV cell particles. Recycling PV panels is quite a task because innumerable components, such as glass, silicon, aluminium, wiring, and plastic, are integrated into a solar module, which makes them difficult to separate. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, this will be a significant issue, with approximately eight million tonnes of PV waste being produced globally by 2030, and this number is expected to reach 78 million tonnes by 2050. The ProMO lab at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, has developed a patented sieving process that can quickly and efficiently sort the component materials...
