India’s aluminium beverage-can industry has fallen around 300 million cans short of its planned additional production, as rising demand and supply constraints continue to challenge domestic manufacturers. The government has extended the mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification deadline for aluminium beverage cans to 2027, giving manufacturers more time to expand production and secure packaging supplies ahead of the summer season. The revised deadlines, notified last week according to an industry executive cited by The Economic Times, replace the earlier October 31 deadline. Large enterprises must comply from April 1, 2027, small enterprises from July 1, 2027, and micro enterprises from October 1, 2027. With Bonderite M-AD 2000A, Henkel Adhesive Technologies introduces a new additive for the anodizing process that makes the surface treatment of aluminium more efficient and sustainable. The additive enables anodising baths to operate at temperatures of up to 24 °C – significantly higher than the conventional 18–20 °C range. Thereby it reduces the energy required for cooling and extends bath life, all without compromising the quality or performance of the anodised layer. Bonderite M-AD 2000A was specifically developed for companies involved in aluminium anodising, whether as a surface treatment or as part of a pre-anodizing process. The focus lies on improving process and energy efficiency: Operating the anodizing bath at higher temperatures significantly reduces the need for cooling. At...

The chances of recycling garbage, nearly 384,000 kilometres away from Earth, into space can also create a great sustainability approach and is also an unavoidable task. NASA is undergoing preparation to make a long-term presence on the Moon with the support of the Artemis program, an agency that deals with similar challenges, which is managing waste sustainability. LunaRecycle Challenge, created by NASA, aiming to address the challenge of managing waste sustainability, is a USD 3 million initiative with a significant focus on developing systems helping the recycling mission directly on the Moon. Instead of bringing that trash back to Earth's surface, NASA plans to turn it into packaging, leftover experiment materials and worn textiles into beneficial resources. Being at the early stage,...

Aluminium prices held steady this week, even as demand from clean energy projects and electric vehicles pushed higher. Normally, stronger demand and technological advances would draw out more supply but this time, the opposite is happening. China, which accounts for more than half of world output, is still holding its annual cap near 45 million tonnes to meet climate goals. In the first half of 2025, production came in at 21.8 million tonnes, close to that ceiling. High power costs and tougher regulations abroad have also slowed smelting expansion. Raw materials are adding to the squeeze. Alumina prices have hit record highs this year, doubling the cost of production. Russia’s Rusal has already trimmed as much as 500,000 tonnes in response. Indonesia’s decision to ban bauxite exports in 2023 has changed the map of alumina supply. Within a year, the country flipped from being a raw ore shipper to a net exporter of alumina in 2024, a shift that is now unsettling traditional producers in Australia and Brazil. Analysts believe Indonesia could add double-digit million tonnes of capacity by 2027. If that happens, the alumina market could tip from tight supply into surplus within two years. From ore to alumina Until the ban, most of Indonesia’s bauxite was sent to China. Today, that ore is feeding a string of new refineries at home. The result: more cargoes of alumina leaving Indonesian ports and fewer raw bauxite shipments abroad. The country’s location gives it another advantage. It sits close to China, the world’s biggest...

Apple, an American multinational corporation and technology company, faces a clash with the German court verdict, opposing the brand from advertising its Watch as a "CO2-neutral product" in Germany on Tuesday.
