

The government of Odisha, in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, allotted Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium products, with land for over 1,447 acres, as a significant industrial push. This land has been provided to the firm for developing a 3 MTPA smelter project, which will be further accompanied by a 4,900 MW captive power plant in the Dhenkanal district.
{alcircleadd}During the allotment letter handing process, not only the Chief Minister, but also Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma and other senior officials also showed their grace. Now, with this allotment, the firm gets one step closer to a better growth and expansion opportunity within the state.

This marks an achievement for the firm, and it came after the Chief Minister made a strategic visit across Western Odisha. During his visit, he highlighted that the government is keenly focused on accelerating the transformative industrial projects as well as expanding the developments beyond the traditional centres.
Moreover, his engagement with the State this week recapitulates the focus made upon undertaking large-scale projects, upholding downstream opportunities and finally positioning Odisha as the destination which is preferred for major industries across the globe. This aligns with the vision, which can be tangibly reflected in the recently allocated land to the firm.

The Ministry of Mines' Aluminium Vision Document 2025 forecasts that India's aluminium demand, by FY2027, will rise sixfold, reaching almost 37 MTPA. By providing this land to Vedanta, the government is assuring the upcoming project will aid in meeting the rising demand. Not only industry-wise, but it will also back the state with enhanced industrial activities and create jobs.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, on this recent allotment stated, "This marks a transformative step in India’s aluminium journey. Its impact will extend well beyond metal production, driving employment, energising local enterprises, and enabling a future-ready industrial base in Odisha. The State Government’s timely land allotment has given clarity and momentum required at this stage. We appreciate the government’s proactive support and are fully prepared to move into the next phase of development with renewed focus and speed."
Aside from this, the firm's dedicated pavilion at the CII Enterprise Odisha Exhibition 2026 was also opened by the Chief Minister and the senior officials. In this, the extensive product portfolio of the firm was showcased, highlighting how each of its offerings is directly aiding the state's industrial ecosystem.
