Crown Holdings raises earnings outlook as global beverage can volumes grow 6%
Crown Holdings has lifted its full-year earnings outlook following a 6 per cent increase in global beverage can shipments in the third quarter of 2026, as stronger demand helped offset rising input costs. The packaging manufacturer now expects adjusted diluted earnings per share of USD 8.35-8.45 for 2026, alongside adjusted free cash flow of at least USD 950 million. The company reported third-quarter net sales of USD 3.711 billion, up from USD 3.202 billion in the same period of 2025. The increase reflected higher beverage can shipments and the pass-through of USD 405 million in additional material costs. Adjusted diluted earnings per share rose 7 per cent year on year to USD 2.39, compared with USD 2.24 in the third quarter of 2025. Reported diluted earnings per share increased to USD...

MRD’s 94.9% gallium recovery puts bauxite back in the critical minerals spotlight
Mount Ridley Mines has reported 94.9 per cent gallium recovery from a third-party bauxite sample using its patent-pending Selectro process, alongside recoveries of 92 per cent aluminium and 97 per cent iron in a single low-temperature leach. The test also produced a silica-rich residue instead of conventional red mud, highlighting the technology’s potential to recover multiple metals from bauxite through one processing route. The sample was provided by Australian Silica Quartz Group from its Darling Range bauxite project in Western Australia. It comprised material collected from 16 vacuum drill samples across four holes at the Athena and Ceres prospects. Containing 80 parts per million of gallium, the sample yielded an extraction rate of 94.9 per cent into solution. Mount Ridley said this...

Bauxite flows face a Q4 slowdown as Guinea’s 150Mt export cap tightens supply
Global bauxite flows are expected to weaken in the fourth quarter of 2026 as China’s front-loading eases and Guinea’s export restrictions begin to constrain shipments . Despite a 2.8 per cent year-on-year rise in global flows in September, softer import requirements in India and the Arabian Gulf could limit demand, leaving China as the principal destination for seaborne bauxite but with little room for further growth. September flows hint at diverging regional trends Global bauxite flows reached 20.4 million tonnes in September 2026, up 2.8 per cent year-on-year, backed by higher shipments from Guinea. Month-on-month flows declined, in line with seasonal wet-weather conditions that typically restrict port movements. Guinea’s shipments to the market were more than 20 per cent higher than...

US aluminum tariffs raise Canadian craft brewers’ costs as 75% of Ontario beer is sold in cans
Canadian craft breweries are facing higher production costs as US tariffs on aluminum increase the price of beer cans, forcing smaller businesses to absorb some of the extra expense or pass it on to customers. Wesley Burbidge, who opened Brew Revolution in 2019 to offer affordable craft beer to his community, said the latest US tariffs have made it harder to keep prices down. Although the brewery managed to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, rising material costs have forced it to adjust its pricing. According to a 2024 report by Beer Canada, around 75 per cent of beer sold in Ontario was packaged in aluminum cans, compared with 43 per cent in 2014. Burbidge said Brew Revolution was trying to limit the impact on customers as the cost of materials increased. He said, “As we see our material...

Bugatti restores one-of-a-kind aluminium-bodied Veyron to mirror-like perfection
Bugatti has brought a unique aluminium-bodied Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse back to its original condition through its La Maison Pur Sang restoration programme, reviving the supercar’s distinctive mirror-like exterior more than a decade after its creation. Known as chassis 8.100, the one-off roadster was originally commissioned with a body made entirely of polished aluminium. Its construction required massive aluminium blocks weighing up to 20 tonnes to be delivered to Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France, before the vehicle was completed in 2014. It was reportedly the most expensive Veyron ever produced at the time. The recent refurbishment was carried out at the owner’s request, with Bugatti returning the car to its original specifications. The process included removing aftermarket...

SMM daily inventory data of aluminium ingots in three regions
As of October 22, SMM statistics show that the social inventory of aluminium ingots across the three regions in China stands at the 430,000 tonnes level, continuing to decline from the previous trading day, marking eight consecutive working days of destocking. By region, Guangdong saw notable destocking, serving as the main source of the decline across the three regions; Wuxi and Gongyi held flat inventories with limited changes. Overall, downstream cargo pick-up continued after the holiday, with inventories across the three regions steadily being absorbed, providing support for spot premiums.
