Aluminium price surge dents Coca-Cola’s India market share despite Diet Coke boom
Beverage giant Coca-Cola Company has acknowledged losing market share in India during the April-June quarter (Q2). Rising aluminium and PET packaging costs, coupled with supply constraints, disrupted its pricing strategy in one of its most important end-use markets. Although Coca-Cola reported stronger-than-expected global quarterly earnings and raised its full-year outlook, India emerged as one of the weaker performers in the Asia-Pacific region. Learn about the future of aluminium in the packaging industry from our report “ ALuminium in Packaging: Consumer Trends and Market Dynamics ” Coca-Cola observed that the biggest setback occurred in the INR 11-40 (USD 0.11-0.42) price segment, where consumers typically choose drinks based on affordability rather than pack size. Higher raw...

India’s aluminium can stock shortage drives import window opening, structural dependency conceals sustainability concerns
In the summer of 2026, India encountered extreme heatwaves, causing soft drink and beer consumption to surge sharply and driving a rapid expansion in the aluminium beverage can market. However, the rapid demand growth was not met with an effective response from domestic supply—India's domestic aluminium can stock capacity has long been insufficient, with can stock supply heavily reliant on imports, primarily from West Asian countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Since March 2026, transportation disruptions in West Asia, combined with escalating BIS import certification delays, have plunged the supply chain into systemic strain. From an industrial structure perspective, although India is one of the world's major aluminium producers, the deep processing segment of can stock manufacturing...

From Asia to South America: How aluminium packaging hubs are affected by the Middle East conflict
The aluminium packaging sector, which consumed around 16.70 million tonnes in 2025 and is projected to approach 17.16 million tonnes in 2026, is now confronting the risk of losing 3-3.5 million tonnes of aluminium supply this year. Packaging industries across Asia, Europe, the United States and Brazil are coming under mounting pressure as escalating tensions in the Middle East threaten to disrupt raw material supply chains. The Middle East produced 6.8 million tonnes of aluminium, accounting for 23 per cent of global output. The UAE remained the region’s largest producer with 2.7 million tonnes, contributing 39 per cent of Middle Eastern output. Bahrain followed with 1.6 million tonnes, or 24 per cent, while Saudi Arabia produced 0.9 million tonnes, representing 13 per cent. Qatar...
