
World alumina production in February 2022 amounted to 10.606 million tonnes, which included 9.975 million tonnes of metallurgical-grade alumina. That reflected a month-on-month decline of 8.7 per cent from 10.926 million tonnes but a year-on-year increase of 0.8 per cent from 9.897 million tonnes, found the International Aluminium Institute.

In the first two months of the year, world’s metallurgical-grade alumina production totalled 20.901 million tonnes, marginally up from 20.864 million tonnes during the same period last year.
According to the IAI data, world metallurgical-grade alumina production in February 2022 recorded a hike of 0.80 per cent when compared to the output of 9.897 million tonnes last year.
Daily average output of metallurgical-grade alumina across the world during February came in at 356,300 tonnes, an increase of 1.08 per cent from 352,500 tonnes in January despite a month-on-month decline in total production.. On a year-on-year basis, the daily output in February’22 stood 0.79 per cent higher than 353,500 tonnes.
China, being the world’s leading producer, churned out 5.415 million tonnes of metallurgical-grade alumina in February’2022, which was 9.67 per cent down from 5.995 million tonnes a month ago but mostly the same as 5.405 million tonnes a year earlier.
China’s total production during January-February 2022 was at 11.410 million tonnes – 0.60 per cent higher than 11.342 million tonnes during the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the Oceania region, alumina production in February 2022 stood at 1.690 million tonnes, down by 1.46 per cent from 1.715 million tonnes in January but up by 12.07 per cent from 1.508 million tonnes in February 2021.
From January to February 2022, alumina production in the Oceania region came in at 3.405 million tonnes, 3.68 per cent more than 3.284 million tonnes during the same period of 2021.
