
Global primary aluminium production stood 5.163 million tonnes in September, off 2.6% year-on-year, according to the latest data showed by the International Aluminium Institute (IAI) on Monday, 21 October 2019. The primary aluminium output was down 3.12% month-on-month.
Primary aluminium production amounted to 47.549 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2019, from 48.023 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2018. This records a slip of 0.99% year-on-year.

In Asia ex-China, aluminium production totalled 363,000 tonnes in September 2019, down 0.27% from 364,000 tonnes in September 2018 and 2.94% from 374,000 tonnes in August 2019. Output in January-September stood at 3.302 million tonnes, from 3.296 million tonnes in January-September 2018.
In the Middle East, primary aluminium production increased by 4.35% YoY to 456,000 tonnes last month. But the output dropped 2.77% month-on-month. Production of primary aluminium stood at 4.109 million tonnes in the first nine months of this year.
Europe’s primary aluminium production totalled 620,000 tonnes in September compared with 644,000 tonnes in the corresponding period the previous year. That was down 3.73% year-on-year. In January-September, total production stood at 5.686 million tonnes, a decrease of 2.39% YoY.
China’s estimated primary aluminium production stood at 2.878 million tonnes in September, IAI data showed.
