Weekly update: Aluminium ingot price in China ended the week lower; Alumina price remained muted

SMM aluminium ingot price started the week with a hike of RMB 250 per tonne on Monday, March 15 2021 to RMB 17620 per tonne. The price on Wednesday stood lower by RMB 230 per tonne to RMB 17530 per tonne, from Tuesday’s price of RMB 17760 per tonne. The aluminium price closed the week lower at RMB 17400 per tonne on Friday, March 19 2021.

According to the Shanghai Metals Market, social inventories of primary aluminium expanded by 22,000 tonnes across eight major consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants. Thus, the stocks this week, as of March 18, came in at 1.25 million tonnes, compared to 1.23 million tonnes on March 11.

The alumina price in China remained unchanged this week. The average spot alumina price increased by RMB 6 per tonne on Friday, March 19 2021 after nine days of restrained. The price is currently standing at RMB 2338 per tonne.

Other raw materials like Australian Alumina FOB Price, Prebaked Anode Central, and Al Fluoride are hovering at USD 289 per tonne, RMB 3880 per tonne and RMB 8725 per tonne as of Friday, 19 March 2021.
