US aluminium companies hit by power outages after storm

Netherlands-based aluminium products manufacturer Constellium experienced three power outages at its plants in Novi and Van Buren during the storms, a spokeswoman for the company said in a November 20 e-mail to Metal Bulletin sister publication AMM. Both plants make automotive structures, according to Constellium’s website.
Roughly 400 miles east, Oslo, Norway-based Sapa Group’s extrusion plant in Mountain Top, suffered a 15-hour power outage but no other disturbances, a company spokeswoman said in an e-mail to AMM.
Deadly tornadoes and thunderstorms pounded the US Midwest on November 17. Metals companies were largely spared damage, although toll processor Precision Strip, part of Los Angeles-based Reliance Steel & Aluminium Co, lost half of the roof at its plant in Perrysburg, Ohio.
In addition, Houston-based Quanex Building Product Corp’s screen facility, also in Perrysburg, suffered damage to part of its roof and lost power. Nanshan America Advanced Aluminium Technologies was unscathed despite being across the street from a Rotec Group facility that was heavily damaged.
