
The second eventful day of 5th International Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium Society (IBAAS) symposium starts with a highlight on the issue of sustainability for the aluminium industry.
The session has been inaugurated by Kiran Anant’s paper “Sustainability issues and opportunities for Aluminium in Asia Pacific”. It is followed by paper topics like Environmental Aspects in Aluminium Industries, Third party certified aluminium and Opportunities and Challenges for Aluminium Industry.
IBAAS convenor Dr. Ashok Nandi presented a paper on the topic “Why Guinea Bauxite is Considered Best in the World?”
One of the parallel sessions for the second day will be highlighting topics on Bauxite and Alumina. The session will cover topics like Caustic Soda, Outlook for Alumina Production, Caustic Soda Scenario of the World, Specialty Process Additives for enhancing Alumina Production and Quality. The session will also cover topics related to water conservation and management, waste processing and reutilization in the alumina industry.
The second parallel session will highlight various technical and marketing aspects of the primary smelting industry. Various topics like reduction in carbon footprint in aluminium smelting, petroleum coke supply trends, cathode materials wear rate and impact of cathode lining design on aluminium smelting will be covered by delegates from Vedanta, Hindalco, Roskill (UK), GAMI(China), JNARDDC, Balco and University of Science and Technology, Poland.

The third parallel session will highlight Aluminium Downstream and Transportation segment. Shanker Gopalkrishnan, President, Madras Consultancy Group, Chennai would present the theme paper for the session. Major downstream players from the domestic and international circuit will highlight opportunities and challenges in the downstream sector of the aluminium industry.
The second day of the symposium is expected to open up a number of interesting ideas and innovative developments taking place in the aluminium industry.
