
Tajikistan’s economy has had a tough impact due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as in other parts of the world and is amplifying health and social pressures, as reported by World Bank experts. Growth slowed to 4.2% in the first nine months of 2020, compared to 7.2% a year earlier.

Bakhrom Ziyaev, World Bank Economist, said: “Restrictions on labour mobility and economic activity at home and abroad have resulted in lower migrant remittances, weaker consumer demand, and reduced investments.”
The Central Asian nation’s import of aluminium bar rods and profiles during 2018-19 stood at 595 tonnes and the expenditures remained at $ 2.71 million. The import for 2020 was recorded at 270 tonnes, with expenditure for the import stood at $ 0.87 million. However, when the import and expenditure for 2020 get summed with the existing two years, it demonstrates 865 tonnes and $ 3.58 million respectively.

Tajikistan’s import of aluminium bar rods and profiles in 2018 stood at 335 tonnes and the expenditures accounted to $1.41 million, whereas, in 2019, the import saw de-growth by 22.38%, as the import volume fell to 260 tonnes and the expenditure also dropped to $ 1.30 million.
The import for 2020 saw marginal growth by 3.84%, as the import rose to 270 tonnes, while the expenditure recorded dip at $ 0.80 million.
Tajikistan’s major trading destinations for the importation of aluminium bar rods and profiles are China, Kazakhstan, Turkey, etc.
