Swisstek Aluminium launches new online portal which will make scrap selling in Sri Lanka easier

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

The Sri Lankan exporter of quality aluminium extrusion products to the global market, Swisstek Aluminium Ltd, launched a website (www.metals.lk) that will make selling scrap in Sri Lanka easier. The website has been created for the Ministry of Industries and Industrial Development Board (IDB), making it easier for firms islandwide to acquire and sell scrap metal, including aluminium, brass, and copper.

Exporting scrap metal has been forbidden since the implementation of import limits in 2020, and the Industrial Development Board is the only entity with authority to oversee the sale of scrap metal. Local producers faced difficulties as a result of the time-consuming and resource-wasting nature of the process of selling waste metal. As a result, this website will help business owners use their resources more effectively and ease the IDB's regulatory burden on such sales.

“The Government aims to reduce the regulatory activities by authorities operating in the industrial sector, thus facilitating local industrialists. It is very clear that such regulatory activities have hampered the industrial sector in Sri Lanka, and thus should be minimised with immediate effect to create a suitable business environment for industrialists in a free space. In this challenging period, we look towards the support of all stakeholders for this purpose,” said Minister of Industries Ramesh Pathirana.

To enable this transition to a more effective industrial setting, Swisstek Aluminium has come forward, helping the firm, the whole sector, and the nation.

Future of Aluminium in Transportation Sector

“This portal was created to solve an issue that arose due to the pandemic and was exacerbated by the economic crisis. Our company was not the only one affected by the operational constraints; the entire industry was being hampered. We thus came forward to implement such a system that would benefit all players in the industry, with the aim of helping the nation overcome at least one of the many challenges it is facing,” said Swisstek Aluminium CEO Tharindu Atapattu.
