Four GT13E2 gas turbines and four generators placed at Sohar Aluminium's facility in the Sultanate of Oman will get repairs, maintenance, and components for ten years thanks to a services agreement inked with GE Gas Power (NYSE: GE). For the duration of the deal, GE Digital will also supply its Asset Performance Management (APM) software.

Sohar Aluminium's smelter is powered by the electricity generated from the four units, which have a 696 megawatts (MW) capacity. The GE solutions are anticipated to boost unit reliability, expand gas turbine availability, lower costs, and lower operational risks, eventually increasing smelting productivity.
“Stable electricity supply is a key input for our manufacturing processes and essential for continuous operations at Sohar Aluminium. The GT13E2 units at our site have provided critical power output since they were first installed in 2009, supporting our growth and enabling us to keep meeting customer commitments. Now, we are delighted to continue our collaboration with GE to maintain the sustained, reliable performance of these essential assets to support our business in the decade ahead,” said Al Masoudi, Chief Executive Officer at Sohar Aluminium.

The cutting-edge 1,000 MW power plant owned by Sohar Aluminium shines by reaching the highest levels of efficiency and assuring minimal emissions, operating costs, and environmental effects while satisfying the strict guidelines established by the local authorities. The factory also has a seawater pumping station to bring cooling water and a desalination system to provide water to the smelter and other operations.
“Diversification efforts through the expansion of non-oil and gas sectors are an important component of Oman Vision 2040. Sohar Aluminium is one of the key industrial contributors in the country to realizing the aspirational goals of this plan. At GE, we are honored to work closely with them on their growth journey and remain committed to bringing our industry-leading solutions to Sohar Aluminium and the Sultanate to further support the national development agenda,” said Joseph Anis, President & CEO of GE Gas Power Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
Over the years, GE has significantly strengthened Oman's energy infrastructure. The first gas turbine to be delivered to the nation is in Al Ghubra, along with nine other high-efficiency F-class gas turbines and several other power generation options to serve Oman's oil and gas exploration and production sectors.
