Schueco SmartActive aluminium window systems help ward off microbial infections

Schueco Australia has taken innovation to a whole new level with the availability of a new surface finish that can be specified for their aluminium window systems to kill harmful bacteria, including multi-resistant bacteria such as MRSA and MRSAE.

A product first in the Australian market, the new Schueco SmartActive is a surface finish for aluminium window systems incorporating micro-silver particles with anti-microbial properties. Germs that come into contact with this surface finish are killed immediately, actively preventing further proliferation and bacterial contamination.

Given that the battle against all types of bacterial infection is being rightly seen as a public health priority, Schueco SmartActive will be warmly welcomed not just in hospitals and nursing homes, but also childcare centres, schools and public buildings.

Independent tests on Schueco SmartActive have shown a reduction in germs of at least 99.9% within 24 hours on treated surfaces. A major benefit of Schueco SmartActive is that the anti-bacterial protection is permanent unlike the use of disinfectants where the effectiveness fades quickly over time. The micro-silver coating is guaranteed to be free of nano particles and therefore cannot enter the body via the skin. This means Schueco’s surface finish is completely safe for humans and for the environment and will not trigger allergies.

The anti-bacterial finish may be applied not only to handles as the primary contact surfaces, but also to the inside of the entire frame construction. Handles are available in a variety of designs and finishes including stainless steel, stainless steel look, anodised surface and powder colour coated.

Schueco SmartActive can be specified for all current Schueco aluminium window systems as an additional measure to maintain surface hygiene between disinfection cycles.
