Sapa delivered aluminium solutions for the renovation of three of the stadiums being used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but that is not all. Sapa also supported the upgrade of one of the key airports serving São Paulo.

The expansion of Viracopos Airport in Campinas, near São Paulo, was one of the infrastructure investments related to the World Cup and to the Summer Olympics in 2016. Viracopos is one of three airports, together with Congonhas and Guarulhos, that serve the 20 million residents in São Paulo’s metro area.

Sapa supplied façade solutions for the new passenger terminal at Viracopos. In all, the company delivered 180 tons of systems used in the work.

Lots of aluminium

In addition to the airport, Sapa’s extrusion company in Itu, near São Paulo, supplied solutions for three of the stadiums being used in the World Cup:

• Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro
• Arena Pernambuco in Recife
• Governor Roberto Santos Stadium in Salvador

The deliveries included an aluminium extrusion-based supporting structure for solar panels for the stadium in Salvador, and aluminium components for the main façade of Maracaña Stadium and for its entry doors, or portals.

The customers wanted an aluminium frame that will last and that is attractive to the eye, says Sapa commercial manager Marcelo Santos.
