Abengoa SA (ABG) will spend $120 million on two steel-dust-waste treatment plants in Turkey and the investment could rise to $300 million if it decides to expand capacity and build an aluminum waste treatment plant. The Spanish engineering company’s Befesa Medio Ambiente SA unit will build the plants in the western and southern industrial provinces of Izmir and Adana, Befesa Chairman Javier Molina Montes said in a news conference in Istanbul today. Alcoa today announced it has reached an agreement with Novelis whereby Alcoa will assume full control of the Evermore Recycling joint venture, the undisputed leader in used beverage can (UBC) recycling, effective August 31, 2012. The two companies previously were partners in the joint venture which purchases more recycled cans than any other group, anywhere in the world. As a result of the new agreement, Alcoa will take over full ownership and operation of Evermore Recycling and make it part of Alcoa's Global Packaging group. Aluminum products maker Novelis said on Monday it has pulled out of a joint venture with Alcoa Inc to recycle beverage cans and will set up its own recycling business. Alcoa said it would assume full control of the Evermore joint venture effective Aug. 31. The two companies have been partners since 2009 in the joint venture, which purchases more recycled cans than any other group in the world. Under this new contract, Landsvirkjun will provide clean, renewable energy to power a steel and scrap metal recycling plant at the Grundartangi industrial area on Iceland's southwest coast.
