According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. Beverage container recycling rates in California have fallen below 80 percent for the first time since 2008, according to new data released last week by CalRecycle, the state’s recycling agency. The reduced recycling rate means that two million additional containers are littered or landfilled every day, including more than one million plastic bottles. Total aluminium recovered from scrap in March 2017 was 324,000 Tonne, 8% more than the revised amount in February 2017 and 8% more than the recovered amount in March 2016, and 4% more than the amount in March 2015. The earlier-than-usual arrival of traditional off-season has taken a heavy toll on prices and capacity utilization rate in China’s secondary aluminium alloy industry, SMM learned. Poor automobile consumption caused capacity utilization rate to fall 4.33 percentage points month-on-month and 7.54 percentage points year-on-year to 57.5% in secondary aluminium alloy industry, SMM survey found. Prices for ADC12 secondary aluminium alloy dropped nationwide, especially in Chongqing and Guangdong.
