Privateer unveils its first all-aluminium e-bike featuring Shimano EP801 drive system

Privateer has launched its first e-bike with promising winter-proof features and endure-ready geometry. The new E-161 electric enduro mountain bike boasts an all-aluminium body, size-specific chainstays, a Shimano EP801 drive system, and bigger winter-ready bearings. It also features a 4mm-thick anodized bash protection on the engine that looks like it came right off a motocross bike.

The rocker is made of forged aluminium that has been CNC machined. According to Privateer, this preserves the grain structure of the alloy, increasing strength while eliminating the need for welding and heat treatment. The front suspension is provided by an eMTB-specific Fox 38 Performance Elite fork, while the rear is provided by a Fox Float X2 Performance shock.

Privateer claims that the new frame's dual-sealed larger bearings offer exceptional durability regardless of the weather. It contains three primary bearings, two on the drive side, to distribute the load and extend the bearing life. The bike, like the 161, has a one-piece rocker link in the suspension linkage.

Privateer has provided internal cable routing for the E-161 that can be accessed from under the battery, which is expected to make service easy while maintaining a sleek appearance. Privateer refers to its geometry as 'enduro-ready,' having spent time refining the E-161 to be as competent and confident as the non-assisted 161.
