Oman's Sohar Aluminium today announced that the aluminium production started again on Friday, 15th September, following the interruption at its smelter in Sohar. The company had informed about an accident which interrupted normal operations in August. The accident halted aluminium production for six-and-a-half hours. "Sohar Aluminium has confirmed it has re-energised the potline, and on Friday 15th September 2017 gradually began re-starting the pots and the production of aluminium," said Said Al Masoudi, chief executive officer of Sohar Aluminium. Nalco has commissioned its wind power plants with 50 MW and 50.4 MW capacity in Rajasthan and Maharashtra, respectively, at a cost of Rs 669 crore. The company plans to set up another wind power plant of 50 MW capacity and looking at suitable location in the country. Some Japanese aluminium buyers have agreed to pay a global producer a premium of $95 per tonne for shipments in the October to December quarter, reflecting lower spot premiums, two sources directly involved in the pricing talks said on Thursday. The new premiums are between 19.5 percent and 20.2 percent lower than the $118 to $119 per tonne premiums PREM-ALUM-JP in the previous quarter and the prices are down for a second consecutive quarter. China’s production of 10 nonferrous metals fell 2.2 per cent to 4.42 million tonnes in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The country’s aluminium production declined for a second successive month to the lowest level since April 2016 in August. China’s aluminium production decreased 3.7 per cent year-on-year to 2.64 million tonnes in August.
