Rusal’s primary aluminium and alloys sales in 2020 ended on December 31 stood at 3.926 million tonnes, reflecting a downfall of 5.99 per cent from 4.176 million tonnes a year ago. Hitachi ABB Power Grids in India has received a contract worth over INR 124 crore from Bharat Aluminum Company (BALCO) to strengthen its power infrastructure at its Korba plant in Chhattisgarh. Hitachi ABB Power Grids will supply fully engineered 400-kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations. This will replace an existing apparatus to better assimilate power from BALCO’s captive generation plants, delivering it with efficiency to the Korba aluminum smelter. The GIS substation saves space by as much as 60 percent compared to conventional switchgear by virtue of its compact, robust and low-maintenance design.
