Giant art installation unveiled at Trafford centre for recycle week

Every Can Counts (ECC) has unveiled a giant art installation outside Trafford Centre to highlight the importance of recycling during Recycle Week 2026 (14th – 20th September).

The Infinity Sculpture, made from more than 1,200 recycled drink cans, has been created to illustrate the life cycle of a drink can, highlighting that aluminium can be recycled time and time again.

Shoppers and centre visitors can get a glimpse of the can-based artwork that will be on display by the Great Hall Entrance at Trafford Centre until Sunday 20th September to mark the occasion. This is the first time the Infinity Sculpture has been showcased in Manchester, where it will act as a physical reminder of the importance of recycling to the community.

On Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September, visitors wanting to learn more about recycling can head down to the installation to meet Every Can Counts’ ‘canny mascot’ Canzee, who is adorned head to toe in more than 400 recycled drink cans. Ambassadors will also be on hand to chat with visitors and spread the recycling message.

Cans collected by Every Can Counts at Trafford Centre throughout Recycle Week will be used to create a brand-new piece of artwork, which will be displayed at Trafford Centre next year - giving Mancunians a chance to be part of the next Every Can Counts installation.

Recycle Week is an annual celebration of recycling that aims to encourage the public across the UK to recycle the right things more often, hosted by the recycling charity WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme).

With so many visitors passing through, we have a real opportunity to show people what responsible recycling looks like in action and raise awareness of aluminium’s circular potential.

“Every can collected for recycling has a future. Each one is crushed and melted down, then reformed into brand-new cans to be filled, enjoyed and recycled all over again. It's a cycle that can happen in as little as 60 days, which is genuinely remarkable when you think about it.”
