Every Can Counts (ECC) has unveiled a giant art installation outside Trafford Centre to highlight the importance of recycling during Recycle Week 2026 (14th – 20th September). The Infinity Sculpture, made from more than 1,200 recycled drink cans, has been created to illustrate the life cycle of a drink can, highlighting that aluminium can be recycled time and time again. Shoppers and centre visitors can get a glimpse of the can-based artwork that will be on display by the Great Hall Entrance at Trafford Centre until Sunday 20th September to mark the occasion. Aluminium grain refiner specialist MQP has extended its contract with the UK’s top metals research centre to support the drive to make casthouses more efficient. MQP and Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology (BCAST) at Brunel University London have worked together for four years to unlock the technology to increase grain refiner efficiency and consistently improve melt quality, resulting in the super-efficient Optifine 5:1 125 development. RUSAL develops AI-controlled electrolysis technology
RUSAL, one of the world's largest aluminium producers, has completed industrial artificial intelligence tests in electrolysis control. A specially trained neural network model calculates the chemical composition of the electrolyte in the electrolyser and adjusts the technological process accordingly. The project aims to increase productivity in aluminium smelting. The new neural network technology for aluminium production is a proprietary development by RUSAL's engineering department. It is based on a neural network model trained on a large dataset of historical information from RUSAL's aluminium division. The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and its research and education organization, the ET Foundation, have released the Call for Entries for the 2025 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. High School, university, trade school, design school, and community college students are all eligible to compete for a total of $15,500 in student scholarships to be awarded to the best designs as judged by a panel of aluminum extrusion professionals in Spring 2025.
