Aluminum can recycling trailers help build recreation trails in the Flathead

There’s a new way to recycle aluminium cans in the Flathead while also giving back to the community. Ryan Ellis of Coram has created two community aluminum can recycling trailers for 24 hour a day drop-off. The trailers are located at Park Provisions in Coram off Highway 2 and the Columbia Falls Community Market on Veterans Drive. Once full, Ellis takes the trailers to Pacific Steel and Recycling in Kalispell and unloads the cans. Proceeds from the cans go to Gateway to Glacier Trails which builds and maintains bike and hiking trails across the Flathead. Ellis said a similar recycling container outside of his elementary school growing up inspired him to give back to his community. “And it’s still there now last time I went back to visit, it benefited their local fire department, and...

New ‘industrial sunbelt’ set to overtake the world’s biggest economies in clean industry race

China remains the frontrunner in clean industry development, securing a quarter of the USD 250 billion of investment in clean plants to date, closely followed by the US at 22 per cent and the EU at 14 per cent. But a bloc of emerging markets including India, Egypt and Brazil, part of the ‘new industrial sunbelt’, is quickly catching up to countries with historic industrial bases, according to new data from the Global Project Tracker and accompanying report published today by Mission Possible Partnership (MPP). The ‘big three’ industrial leaders may soon be overtaken by a host of newly industrialising countries capitalising on favourable conditions for renewable energy production and building momentum in sectors at the forefront of a new clean industrial revolution. For more than 70 years, Albert Smith Signs has helped shape the identity of the built environment producing signs for the country's biggest brands and landmarks, and exporting to regions as far afield as Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands. At the centre of this story is Rodney Smith, a hands-on CEO with deep roots in the business his family built. " I love making things," he says with a grin. "I still sketch ideas on whiteboards. I build prototypes in my shed. I've always liked solving problems with my hands — and I've never stopped doing that." Aluminium powers the future: New digital series spotlights UK’s most strategic metal

The UK aluminium sector has been on a rollercoaster in recent months. Following significant concern over punitive US tariffs, the recent UK-US Economic Prosperity Agreement delivered an important reprieve, removing the 25 per cent duty on aluminium and restoring confidence for exporters. ALFED played an active role in championing the sector’s position, and this development only reinforces why a louder, unified voice for British aluminium is needed, both in Westminster and globally. With decarbonisation, resilience, and strategic autonomy at stake, aluminium is no longer a background player, it’s central to the UK’s future economy. As a result, a new digital series launched today, The Element of Choice: A Sustainable Future. It is set to reshape public perception of one of the UK’s most...

Aluminum Association statement on 50% Section 232 aluminium tariffs

Aluminum Association President & CEO Charles Johnson issued the following statement in response the Trump administration’s decision to increase Section 232 aluminium tariffs from 25 per cent to 50 per cent: “Re-establishing a more level playing field for domestic producers is critical but a Section 232 tariff of 50 per cent threatens to undermine the very industry the administration aims to support. The Aluminum Association, which represents the full industry supply chain and 70 per cent of domestic production, urges the administration to reconsider today's decision given the negative impact it will have on manufacturers. Aluminium and steel are fundamentally different metals with distinct supply chains, market dynamics and strategic challenges. A one-size-fits-all approach to trade...
