The Federal Government of Nigeria has reportedly approved a power supply to ALSCON, the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, to help it return to its full production capacity. The news came after the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah made an official announcement during his extensive tour of ALSCON facility in Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State.

During the announcement, Minister also communicated that the smelter would create jobs for about two thousand Nigerians once returned to full operations. He ensured all necessary support on behalf of the government to see the plant up and running.
Applauding the approval of power supply to the plant, Managing Director of the smelter Zavalov Dmitry called for the provision of an alternative source of gas supply. He said, “Globally, industries that produce metal always have two sources of supply of gas.”
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, Charles Udoh, also appreciated the Federal government’s decision to revive the ALSCON Plant.
The primary objective is to create a flourishing nation through the diversification of economy and pull out Nigerians from poverty, stated Dr. Ogah.
