
On Saturday, October 8, Atharva Metalcraft, a scrap processing facility in Ludhiana, witnessed a severe accident which injured seven people working there. According to the police, the machine used for compressing scrap material exploded, resulting in the blast. Two of the seven workers were reported to be seriously injured and taken to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

According to Deepak Singh, a manufacturing worker, the explosion caused the roofing constructed of iron sheets to fall, injuring some employees. As per the reports, the scrap was not appropriately checked before being handed over to workers for compression, and it appeared to contain explosive material.
Atharva Metalcraft Private Limited, based in Ludhiana, is a manufacturer of aluminium extruded profiles. With an annual installed capacity of 3,600 tonnes, the firm has two separate manufacturing lines and two extrusion presses with varying capacities to serve various clients in the hardware, transportation, and architectural industries, among others.
