Founded in North East England in 1973, K Home International, a family-run engineering firm that has worked on projects worldwide, is celebrating 50 years in business.

The journey started with a vision to provide engineering design, project and construction management services that deliver its clients the most appropriate and effective solutions.
As a company founded by Ken Home, K Home International has been providing engineering design and project management services to several prestigious projects.
Ken said, "Some of the key highlights of our 50 years in business are the projects we've worked on, including one of our first jobs at the British Aluminium smelter in Lynemouth, a company we continued to work with for over 40 years until the plant closed."
"Other notable contracts include a series of major projects in the Middle East for Dubai Aluminium, ALBA, Qatalum and Ma'aden."
However, after Ken retires from the company's day-to-day running, it is now run by his sons Andrew and Michael.
Michael Home, the Commercial Director, said, "Celebrating the company's 50th anniversary is an outstanding achievement, and one of our primary sources of pride is giving employment to so many people over the years, including training many apprentices to become professional engineers."
"Dad established the company on firm foundations and set up a culture based on long-term success rather than short-term gain, and it's really paid off."
"To reach 50 years in business through several recessions, the banking crisis and a pandemic is a tribute and testament to all our staff throughout five decades."
The firm has been recognised many times for its work, including winning the Queen’s Award for Export in 1998. In the year 2003, Ken was awarded an OBE, and in 2005 the firm also won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
Ken added, "In many ways, things have not changed since I launched the company as K Home Engineering in 1973. We are still based in the office we moved into in 1977, have the same culture and philosophy, and are still owned and managed as a family firm."
"However, the business has grown and provides a broader range of engineering services to meet our client's requirements."
"In 1973, all our work was done on drawing boards. We got our first computer-aided design machine in 1988; my philosophy has always been that we needed to keep up to date with the latest design technology to ensure we could provide the best service to our clients. This investment has continued as technology develops, allowing us to provide services in competition with companies many times our size."
