ElvalHalcor orders hot rolling mill from SMS Group for its aluminium sheet plant

SMS Group GmbH has won a contract from ElvalHalcor, to supply a new four-stand tandem aluminium hot finishing mill for its Oinofyta plant, near Athens. ElvalHalcor is one of Europe’s leading producers of wide aluminium sheet that is currently investing EUR 150 million to upgrade equipment, technology and infrastructure. The investment, announced in December 2017 was funded by the European Investment Bank. The investment is a part of company’s five-year plan to more than double its flat rolled aluminium products capacity.

With the installation of new four-stand tandem mill, the future spectrum of hot rolled strips will range from 1.8 mm to 12.7 mm in thickness and up to 2.6 m in width. This will secure ElvalHalcor’s position as a leading producer of high Quality wide aluminium sheet.

This upgrade will enhance ElvalHalcor’s current presence in aluminium packaging, industrial, transportation and architectural applications. The investment will also support ElvalHalcor’s expansion plans in the automotive and aerospace sectors. The new investment will facilitate further modernisation of the plant, implement the latest industrial technology, boost energy efficiency and improves carbon footprints. The company expects to commission the new hot rolling line in the first quarter of 2020.
