DUBAL shows its product expertise at ARABAL 2013

The 17th International Arab Aluminium Conference and Exhibition ("ARABAL 2013"), held in Abu Dhabi from 5 to 7 November this year, provided ample opportunity for Dubai Aluminium (" DUBAL ") to demonstrate the company's extensive knowledge and expertise in the primary aluminium smelting industry. Since commissioning in 1979, the state-owned corporation has grown its operations through sequential expansion projects and currently operates one of the world's largest single-site primary aluminium smelters, with a production capacity in excess of one million tonnes of hot metal per year.

Attesting to the company's industry experience, amassed over almost 35 years, DUBAL 's involvement at ARABAL 2013 spanned multiple levels, giving good exposure to the brand throughout the event's duration:

• Dr Ali Al Zarouni (Vice President: Smelter Operations) hosted a pre-conference workshop on DUBAL 's in-house developed DX+ Technology which operates at high amperage levels (440 kA and higher) and offers best-in-class performance in terms of improved productivity and reduced impact on the environment through improved energy efficiency and minimized emission levels. Speaking to a full-house, Dr Al Zarouni impressed the audience with his vast knowledge of the aluminium smelting industry and insightful explanations of DUBAL 's technology development and transfer skills.
• Walid Al Attar (Executive Vice President: Marketing & Sales, DUBAL and EMAL) delivered a presentation on the UAE smelters' flexibility to meet market demands during a session focusing on casthouse product mix and downstream initiatives in the Middle East North Africa ("MENA") region.
• Malcolm McHale (Advisor to DUBAL ) moderated a session on Environmental Drivers.
• Dr Ronald Otte (Senior Manager: EHS & Technical Services) delivered a presentation on DUBAL 's carbon management strategy and performance against the same during the Environmental Drivers session.
• DUBAL participated jointly with EMAL in the Gulf Co-operation Council ("GCC") pavilion in the exhibition held alongside the ARABAL 2013 conference, where the focus fell on DUBAL 's proprietary reduction cell technologies and the two companies' combined portfolio of high quality, premium purity products.
• DUBAL was the official sponsor of the ARABAL 2013 Conference Registration desk.
• Mohammed Yahya (Manager: Corporate Relations & International Affairs) is the Vice Chairman of the ARABAL Committee, having served on this body for 15 years.

Hosted by Emirates Aluminium ("EMAL"), in which DUBAL holds a 50:50 share with Mubadala Development Company ("Mubadala"), ARABAL 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of the inaugural ARABAL Conference and Exhibition in 1983. More than 600 people attended the conference and allied exhibition. The event was the fifth of its kind to be staged in the UAE, with DUBAL having previously hosted four ARABAL events in 1987, 1995, 2001 and 2008 respectively. The latter coincided with ARABAL's 25th anniversary, giving DUBAL the rare privilege of hosting the silver jubilee year of this internationally acclaimed event.
