The update comes over a year after KEC’s commissioning of the first phase of the plant in Vadodara in February 2025, marking an investment of about INR 600 million (USD 6.33 million). The company has not disclosed the capacity to be added, the investment or a completion date. Rexam supports Metalman to launch first ever craft beer in cans

Rexam, a leading global can maker, has partnered with Irish craft brewer, Metalman, to launch the brand’s first ever range of canned beers; marking a move from traditional draught to a single serve in can. Designed by Rexam’s own creative team in the recently expanded Graphics and Design Centre, Luton, the colourful and unique cans were created for the brand’s Pale Ale, Equinox and Heat Sink beers. The stylish designs, heavily influenced by the brand’s passion for the Art Deco Movement, utilise the aluminium material of the can to neatly incorporate the Metalman logo. Gráinne Walsh, Managing Director for Metalman, comments, “We first met the Rexam team at Drinktec back in 2013 and were impressed with their approach to design and innovation. They visited our brewery shortly after and their...

2018 Rolls-Royce range going aluminium; on-road testing begins

The first Rolls-Royce to be underpinned by an aluminium spaceframe platform will appear in 2018, the British luxury marque has confirmed. As revealed in February last year, that new model will come in the form of an SUV - or, as Rolls-Royce described it at the time, “a high-bodied car”. The new SUV will compete with the Bentley Bentayga, although Rolls-Royce would be loathe to recognise anything with wheels as a rival. “Our competitors are actually your yachts, your jets, fine arts,” the company’s design director, Giles Taylor, told CarAdvice in September. In a statement today, the company said that on-road testing of the new platform is now underway, which suggests that earlier photos of a high-riding development mule may have been testing other aspects of the new model. The British...

Chinese auto market buoyancy fails to keep domestic aluminium demand afloat

Primary aluminium production curtailments plus rumours of imminent stockpiling of aluminium helped lift prices in December 2015. From an all-time time low of RMB9870/t hit in late November, the SHFE cash price has since rallied, and reached RMB11,200/t by the end of the year. At the start of 2016, prices again dipped as concerns developed over the financing of any stockpiling program. However, despite the pick-up in SHFE prices, the Chinese market remains soft. Demand is still struggling in key sectors such as construction and consumer durables although the automotive market has picked up in the last two months, thanks partly to cuts in auto sales taxes. The CNIA in China has called for semis VAT export rebates to be increased further. As of yet the Chinese government has not heeded this...

Aluminium bottle can for beer suits Montanans’ outdoor lifestyles

Philipsburg Brewing Company’s Maddy Mason knows Montanans work hard and play hard in Big Sky Country. That’s a big reason the company chose to package one of its most popular beers-Tramway Rye Pale Ale-in Alumi-Tek® reclosable aluminium bottles from Ball Corp. “Montanans spend much of our time outside-hiking, fishing, floating, skiing, and ice fishing, to name a few examples, in settings that go well with a cold beverage,” says Mason, Sales and Marketing for Philipsburg. “We chose Ball’s Alumi-Tek bottle because we want to make sure that the beer ends up in your mouth and not in your boat! The smooth pour and distinctive look and shape of Alumi-Tek offers a premium drinking experience to our fans, and a look that makes our beer stand out on retail shelves in a growing craft beer market.”...

SMM sees high possibility for China to hike aluminium semis export rebate in 2016

SMM sees high possibility for China to hike aluminium semis export rebate in 2016

There is a good chance for China to raise export rebate on deeply processed aluminium semis in 2016 after dosing so during the 2008-2009 global financial crisis, SMM predicts. SMM's prediction is based on the fact that such products have high value-added, and encouraging exports of such products can help alleviate overcapacity in domestic aluminium market. SMM sees low possibility for China to remove export duty on aluminium ingot and intermediate aluminium products, such as aluminium coil, in 2016. Cancellation of export duty on aluminium ingot and intermediate aluminium products runs against China’s intention of encouraging exports of deeply processed products. Besides, massive exports of such products will cause overseas aluminium prices to slump, which will send ripple effects into...

Margins set to improve for auto component makers in 2016

Auto component makers including aluminium and aluminium alloy based die-cast component manufacturers may finally turn in a decent performance in the year to March. A few quarters ago, the industry was worried, given the prolonged auto slowdown in global markets, especially Europe and the US, and sluggish sales across most segments in domestic markets. These concerns were mirrored in the underperformance of shares of leading auto component makers over the last one year. Stocks of companies like Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd that have supplies to overseas original equipment (OE) makers have been battered more as exports slowed down. But there are reasons for optimism now, observe analysts. Domestic sales in India, which account for most part of the total auto component...
