The Australian engineering company Clough Ltd based at Perth has been commissioned by Australian Bauxite Company’s subsidiary Alcore for their design and construction of aluminium fluoride plant in New South Wales.

The contract which is secured by Clough, states that it will be building a recycling plant for Australian Bauxite subsidiary Alcore. In the plant, the by-products from aluminium smelters will be converted into aluminium fluoride.

Alcore has worldwide exclusive rights to the aluminium-relation portion of CORE Technology, and after six months of test, work has committed to the best strategy for its first commercial plant whereby by-products from aluminium smelters will be converted into aluminium fluoride, which can be sold back to the smelters as an essential electrolyte for smelting.

As per Alcore, the production plant would be the simplest and low-cost method to make aluminium fluoride.

Alcore’s strategic planning is to convert low-grade bauxite worth $50 per tonne into a suite of products worth more than $800 per tonne.

Philip Hall, COO of Alcore said: “Clough is an ideal engineer for Alcore’s transition from the lab research stage to its first commercial plant. Clough’s long-term association with this technology auger well for good teamwork.”

Alcore will be refining two smelter by-products, one of which is high aluminium and the second high fluorine so that all aluminium fluoride components are readily available.

Global Aluminium Industry Outlook 2020

Alcore is operating from a freshly built $2.5 million laboratory in Berkley Vale in NSW, where it refines bauxite and its components to produce test samples of aluminium fluoride and co-products.
