Chalco to Sell Stakes at Subsidiaries, Alcoa’s Tennessee Aluminum Rolling Mill Expands

Chalco to Sell Stakes at Eight Aluminum Processing Subsidiaries
The Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco)’s aluminum processing business has the smallest gross margins and is the one of the major reasons behind its losses.

As such, Chalco has decided to sell stakes at its eight aluminum processing subsidiaries, including Chalco (Henan), which reported more than RMB 500 million in losses last year. The Chinese aluminum giant will also sell assets at its Chalco Northwest Aluminum Branch and alumina production lines at Chalco (Guizhou). Its aluminum processing assets will thus decrease RMB 15 billion.

Emal Expands Capacity to Meet Growing Global Aluminum Demand
Emal CEO said its company will further expand capacity in 2017. Its annual output will grow to 1.3 million mt by the end of 2014 from current 800,000 mt. Emal expects global aluminum demand to rise from 46 million mt to 60 million mt by 2015.

Alcoa’s Tennessee Aluminum Rolling Mill Expands to Serve Rising Demand from Auto Sector
Alcoa recently announced it will spend USD 275 million over the next three years to expand its Tennessee rolling mill to meet growing demand for automotive aluminum sheet. Alcoa announced in September 2011 it would spend USD 300 million to expand the automotive-products capacity at its Davenport, Iowa, facility. Work there is expected to be finished this year.

Danjiangkou Aluminum’s 50,000 Mt/Yr Super-Wide Aluminum Foil Blank Project to Enter Operations
Danjiangkou Aluminum’s 50,000 mt/yr super-wide aluminum foil project is one of its 49 key projects that start construction this year. The project, representing RMB 270 million in total investment, will produce 50,000 mt of super-wide aluminum foil blank each year. Groundbreaking took place in March this year. The project will be supported by four 2200mm casting and rolling production lines and one 2100mm cold-rolling production lines.

Installation of its four casting and rolling production lines has been completed. The first casting and rolling line entered trials on April 14 this year and has now produced 190.74 mt of casted products. Installation of cold-rolling lines is scheduled to be finished by the end of this month.
